Courses available for Honours, Masters, PhD and other Graduate Students

Postgraduate Research Training

Our dedicated and experienced research staff have a strong commitment to postgraduate research training. We currently supervise more than 100 students enrolled within our higher degree programs. We offer strong BSc(Hons) and PhD programs in biomedical research, as well as other shorter graduate courses. We offer summer vacation scholarships to top-ranked 3rd year BSc students prior to Honours, and travel money for our PhD students to attend national or international conferences.

  • Master of Science Course - available to science and biomedical science graduates; graduates with other qualifications may be considered
  • Neuroscience Clinical Research courses, including Specialist Certificate in Clinical Research (Neuroscience), Graduate Diploma in Clinical Research and Master in Clinical Research - available to graduates in the medical, nursing and allied health disciplines; others will also be considered

Training in diverse areas of biomedical research

Research in the Department of Medicine (AH/NH) spans diverse areas of biomedical research, covering cancer, cardiovascular disease, endocrinology, genetics, neurosciences, and pharmacology; and includes clinical and basic research projects.

Research in Affiliated Institutes

Candidates who wish to conduct research within one of our affiliated institutes are encouraged to enrol through the Department of Medicine. Institutes affiliated with our department include: the Austin Research Institute, the National Stroke Research Institute, Ludwig Cancer Research Institute and the Brain Research Institute. We welcome applications from international and local candidates for all our programs.

 

MBBS applications

The undergraduate medical degree (MBBS) is not administered through our department. Please see the School of Medicine website for more information on medical degree enrolment.

 

Open Day for Prospective Students

Each October our department participates in the Austin Medical Research Week, which showcases the wide range of research undertaken by our researchers.  As part of this research week, we run an Open Day for prospective BSc(Hons) and PhD students.

This is a great opportunity to come along meet our current students and supervisors, discuss possible projects and check out our facilities.
