Scholarships

BSc(Hons) Summer Vacation Scholarships

We offer summer vacation scholarships for science and biomedical science students who have completed their three-year undergraduate degree, and who plan to do their BSc(Hons) year with one of our research groups. Scholarships are awarded to up to four students per year, based on their third year BSc Faculty Score, which must be greater than 75. Scholarships are worth $2500, and are provided for 6 weeks over the summer period, with a flexible starting date.

Individual research groups may also provide summer vacation scholarships to students with faculty scores below 75. Please check the individual group's pages, or contact the heads of groups for further information.

 

PhD Scholarships

Students wishing to enrol full-time for a PhD in our department are encouraged to apply for scholarships, including the Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) and Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS), through the University of Melbourne. The closing date for applications for 2008 postgraduate scholarships is October 31, 2008.

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences also offers a limited number of postgraduate scholarships.

A range of scholarships for PhD study are also offered by the following granting bodies:

Individual research groups may provide scholarships or additional top-up funding for PhD students who obtain externally funded PhD Scholarships.  Please check the individual groups' pages, or contact the heads of groups for further information.

 

Student Travel Grants

We provide travel support for all full-time PhD students supervised and located within the department. A travel grant of up to $500 is available to students, usually in their second, third or fourth year of candidature, to attend a national or international conference in their area of interest. Departmental Prizes for BSc(Hons) and PhD Students

We award annual prizes for most outstanding posters presented by our students at Austin Health Medical Research Week.

  • The prize for the most outstanding poster from a BSc(Hons) student consists of a Certificate of Excellence and a $100 bursary.
  • The prize for the most outstanding poster from a PhD student consists of a Certificate of Excellence and a $250 bursary.
