Austin IBC - Training

It is a requirement of the Gene Technology Act and Gene Technology Regulations that all personnel working with GMOs are trained in their requirements under these pieces of legislation.

  • Training at the Austin Hospital campus is conducted each year in March during the Department of Medicine Introductory Teaching series, by the Gene Technology Regulation Officer from University of Melbourne.
  • Training takes approximately 1 hour.
  • Contact Joan Lambiase, ph 9496 3598 (Tue, Wed, Thu) for details.

A copy of the presentation used in training is available here, should it be needed as a "refresher" for any department during the year. The presentation is the Gene Technology and Biosafety Update, listed under Past Sessions heading of Current Programs.

Training in specific laboratory practices for handling GMOs should be conducted by the laboratory head or a senior postdoc. Training records must be signed by the trainee and kept by the laboratory.
